Everything is beautiful at the ballet
That is exactly why Natalie Portmans portrayal as of the troubled ballerina Nina Sayers artistic obsessive struggle for artistic perfection in Darren Aronofsky's psychological thriller Black Swan won her critical and commercial popular acclaimsuccess. Leaving that Moroever, Portman began to be touted as a strong contender for the Oscar soon after Darren Arnofskys psychological thriller the movie was released on December 1,st 2010 and screened atIts subsequent screening at Venice Film Festival added to the buzz. "Evidently Natalie Portman already has this year's Academy Award for best actress all sewn up," wrote Jan Chaney in the Post's Celebritology 2.0 column.
Results of the most prestigious academy awards in moviedom - , the Oscars are out. The predictions have come true. The hype and hoopla, along with the bets, have come to rest. It did not come as a surprise that 29 year old Israeli-American aActress, Natalie Portman won the Oscar for Best Actor in a leading role (Female) 2010.
Portmans character Nina, the character portrayed by Portman, is a non-confoirmist who is desperately insecure and possibly still a virgin, She , who lives with a creepy mother. Nina contends with professional jealousies and rivalries as she secures the dual lead roles in an upcoming poruction: one of White Swan, the pristine virgin, which echoes mirrors Ninas own character, which is sweet and driven; and the other, as opposed to her twin Black Swan, the dangerous and passionate seductress in "Swan Lake”." But the subtext in the movie is: can sweet Nina Sayers pull off playing a Black Swan? "I just want to be perfect," she says, and Thomas counters, "Perfection is also about letting go."
To loosen up, she touches herself on the recommendation of her arrogant ballet teacher. This is where Portman comes out of her comfort zone to get into the character, which possibly won her the best actress trophiesaward. The scales are risen for Nina so that she can strive hard to achieve the inevitable. The character of Nina has been author backed for the Oscars. Portmans marketing strategies and good girl image worked in her favour. Besides, none of the other films which received nominations for Best Actress created as much noise as much as Natalies Black Swan.
Even what is highly debated is As Natalie told New York Times, Aronofskys recommended homework for Natalie that of a year-long, daily training regimen of five to eight hours of ballet work, swimming a mile, and eating next to nothing - , as Natalie told New York Times sent her into complete physical distress. It is this hard work that was reawarded at the Oscars.
As Mick LaSalle had predicted prior to the Oscars, Natalie as was the most likely nominee to win, with a clear edgeedging over the other nominees
Portman has one of the best smiles in the movies and yet barely smiles once in "Black Swan." Usually level-headed and self-possessed, she plays an insecure ballerina who is cracking up. The aAcademy loves mental affliction, and it also loves physical hardship - Portman had to get very skinny and endure rigorous ballet training. Add this all up, plus the youth, and everything points to Portman.
Mick LaSalles analysis analysedindicates that from the beginning of the Aacademy's history, Oscars its membership had shown a predilection for what he calls chameleon performances, in which actors completely transform, over what he calls “apotheosis performances”, in which actors play some recognizable version of themselves. This is why, Mick believes, Judy Holliday ("Born Yesterday") beat Bette Davis ("All About Eve") - though it also didn't hurt that Holliday was young (30) and had never been nominated.
According to Mick, 30- year- old Michelle Williams according to Mick gave a stupendous performance in "Blue Valentine", probably the best performance by an English-speaking actress this year, but apotheosis performances almost never beat chameleons. So she's out of the money.
The Ssame goes for Nicole Kidman in "Rabbit Hole." It's an apotheosis performance, plus it smacks of a courtesy nomination. Finally, there's Jennifer Lawrence, who really isn't a hardscrabble rural girl, but if her performance in "Winter's Bone" represents an extraordinary transformation, no one is in a position to know it. Until "Winter's Bone,", no one had ever seen her. If there were a best newcomer award, as there is in France, Lawrence would win it in a walk. This friendly nomination is the American equivalent of that kind of acknowledgment.
Finally the showdown prior to the Oscars had boiled down to one between Natalie and Annette Benings heavy duty performance as a lesbian mother who raises her test tube babies with a partner (played by Julian Moore) in The Kids are Alright.”. And Bening has to deal with Moores cheating on her.
According to Betting Experts prediction of the predicting winner at the Oscars:
Natalies biggest rival will be Annette Bening who also won the Golden Globe this year for BbestA actress in a comedy or musical, is nominated for the 4th fourth time and due to this, it could sway the voters to finally give the award to her. Natalie Portman not winning the Oscar might be a big upset; neverthelesnevertheless,s this will not be the first time that the favourite loses on the night. The Oscar Academy Award for best actress will be a showdown between Natalie Portman and Annette Bening.
The Jerusalem Post predicted:
Israel may not have a film nominated this year, but Israel-born Natalie Portman is the front runner in the Best Actress category for her role as a ballerina descending into madness in Black Swan. Her only real competition is Annette Bening for her role as a lesbian mother in “The Kids Are All Right”. But Portman has the far showier role. Oscar likes nothing better than a pretty young thing going nuts. Besides, Bening is married to Warren Beatty, and in the eyes of many Academy voters, that is enough of a prize.

It is clear none of the roles by the other nominees were powerful enough to woo the viewers and critics like Darren Aronofsky's “horror flick” - as A.O.Scott referscalls it - which was also nominated for Best Picture this year. His Wrestler wowed the audiences in 2008.
Also in her Portmans favor is that over the past decade, youth has been rewarded in the Best Actress category -- with the exception of 2006 winner Helen Mirren and Sandra Bullock, who was 45, all of the winners have been in their late twenties or early thirties.
"One pattern that has been clear in the Best Actress category in recent years with the old boys in the Aacademy is that they treat it like a beauty pageant," Tom O'Neil, who runs the awards website GoldDerby.com, told The Daily Beast. "When you look at the parade of lovelies that have won, it's Charlize, Julia, Nicole, Halle. This year the babe of the year is Natalie Portman."
