In fact over the past 1 year if we were to plot all the places in India which have had terrorist attacks, then we can clearly see that no region has been spared. Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Assam, Mumbai etc. Seriously the government is the one to blame. 99% of the time we are fighting amongst ourselves trying to create a divide between North and South India, East and West India and so on. This is the issue that we have to fight. 280 lives have been lost so far. Can you imagine the response if this terrorist attach had taken place on any Western Country soil? India, should not only move forward economically...it has to become a geo-political power. We have to move out of the shadows and stamp our presence in the world. There is no place for terrorism in this world. Absence of evidence is not evidence. Geographically and demographically the US is much less vulnerable than the rest of the world especially the religiously and ethnically fragmented reality of India. Also don't forget over 4 thousand of America's most courageous have given their lives while 30 thousand+ have been injured(not counting the 10's of thousands of Iraqs who have died). Our hearts go out to those who have lost their lives and their families. Lets hope India responds rationally to this horrific act and doesn't overreact, by allowing its citizens to resort to violent mob justice or as in our case by invading another country.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8912992069786611114.post-78955529514985930702008-11-29T11:47:00.000+05:302008-11-29T11:47:00.000+05:30The terrorists attacks in India is primarily a pra...The terrorists attacks in India is primarily a practice before they hit the west. They came by the night and have done this dark act. The police and the political system have been caught napping again. One of the attacks took place adjacent to the police head-quarters in Colaba. It almost feels that the rulers are hoping this problem would just go away, instead of working to tackle this head on and deal it with the strongest hand. It can't be the lack of monetary support that is hampering the process of catching these criminals before hand. The common man's expectation of basic safety to work and survive has taken another blow. The problem of terrorism needs to be addressed at all levels. The terrorists have no purpose except to wreak havoc among the masses. Their issues will never get addressed if they proceed in this fashion. Logic, I am afraid, is not what their actions are increasingly based on.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8912992069786611114.post-89606795116723910472008-11-29T11:45:00.000+05:302008-11-29T11:45:00.000+05:30This looks like a classic fedayeen tactic as used ...This looks like a classic fedayeen tactic as used on several occasions by the Lashkar e Tayyiba in Kashmir in the past though the earlier focus by these terrorist groups was on attacking the Indian army and the Border Security Force and not civilians. The singling out of American and British tourists does seem to suggest that these groups are now beginning to target ordinary people of these nationalities. Considering that these groups operate in India and Pakistan and that they have been known to escape into Bangladesh and Nepal in the past, it would be important for all Americans and Britons to leave the region and stay away from it for the conceivable future in the interests of their own safety. The Lashkar (whatever it calls itself these days) and other similar groups are under extreme pressure from the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan and a number of their cadres have been killed inside Pakistan as well in recent months. Mumbai does seem to have become a soft target for them to exploit - other Indian cities may follow. The continuous incompetence of the Indian government in providing security to its own people as well as to foreigners underlines the need for foreigners to leave the country in the interest of their own safety.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8912992069786611114.post-10373631478699627382008-11-29T11:43:00.000+05:302008-11-29T11:43:00.000+05:30For too long, this war on terrorism has been used ...For too long, this war on terrorism has been used in the US as a bludgeon to advocate a specific set of policies disproportionate to its risk and more in-line with the long-term interests of the Bush administration. It's not that, here in the US, we should not have been scared after 9/11, but maybe we were too scared, and gave up too much, to the point of hysteria. That overreaction lent itself to manipulation by those with disingenuous motives, and risked the sincere support of America's friends and allies.

Now India is being hit by terrorist attacks matched in drama and fear, if not yet in scale, to 9/11. India froze the assets of foreign terrorists suspects for the US after we were attacked 7 years ago. We responded with a weak and unfocused policy in the region, which included propping up a destabilizing dictatorship with India's tensest foreign relationship.

It's time America did right by India, and issued a statement of solidarity in light these attacks. It should not include a plan of action that the US takes, but instead a commitment of resources to help India investigate or go after the groups that perpetrate these crimes. The mandate should be qualified to free us from obligation to be involved or support unilateral activity on the part of India in territory it disputes with Pakistan, so that we're not rattling any cages. But in any case, it's time this war on terrorism meant something more than a cash hole, long lines at airports, and the Bush administration projecting its idea of force onto the 21st century. And it's time America meant something more to a country like India than an entity only slightly more troubling and dangerous as an enemy than as a friend.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8912992069786611114.post-13343238001700483162008-11-29T11:41:00.000+05:302008-11-29T11:41:00.000+05:30We need to end the evil that is Islamo-fascist ter...We need to end the evil that is Islamo-fascist terrorism NOW - if this need a nuclear world war 3, then so be it. There are two important sources of islamo-fascism - 1) Saudi Arabia - the heart and brains; and 2) Pakistan - the arms and legs.
